Known as America's Great Road, Big River, Father of the Water and other nicknames, the Mississippi River has long played an important part in the history of the United States. The river was once a major exploration route and is now host to a myriad of recreational and commercial activites. Ohio River
The Ohio River begins at the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Stretching 981 mi (1579 km), the river ends when it joins the Mississippi River at Cairo, Illinois. The river flows through or along the border of 14 states and was an important part of Native American life.
